Introduction to Programming (with Arduino) class 26Jan2017

Want an easy entry to Programming? Want to learn how computers sense and interact with the world? Come on down to Maui Makers on Thursday 26 Jan 2017  6-9pm for our Introduction to Programming (using Arduino) class. We will teach you how to code, and how to make these little microcontrollers interact with the world.

Bring your laptop, and please try to download the software before class from https://www.arduino.cc/en/Main/Software . It is free, but takes a bit of time to download. Better to have it already on your box. We do not have computers for students (donations welcome!)

Class will be free to members and folks new to Maui Makers. After the first meeting, we ask a $10 donation or join up ($60/mo) and get access to rest of our workshop (3d printing, wood/metal equipment, etc.) Middle school youth up through retirees. Those under 18 must be accompanied by a responsible adult – come make it a family outing!

(362 Pakana St, Wailuku, HI 96793-8362, United States;  last 2bays on last building on the right. its not on google street view yet and there is little signage, yet.)

Electronics and Programming–Learn About Arduino!

You can learn Arduino one of two ways:

  1. Come to the Arduino Special Interest Group on Thursdays, click here for more info, and do a self-paced study course over several weeks. We can provide you with all the items you need, coaching, patience and assistancel.
  2. Email us at email classes@mauimakers.com and let us know that you’re interested. We will set up a special, focused beginner-friendly session to get you on your way quickly.

What is an Arduino?

Arduinos are a low cost, easy to use family of microcontrollers.  Want to learn about the basic use of Arduino computers?

Free to paid members. $10.00 for non-members. First time is FREE.

Menehune Makers–for Young Makers (K-2nd grade)

2nd and 4th Tuesdays from 5:00pm-6:30pm

A different theme each week.

This is our special program for children. Events will vary, but the primary focus will be on the Art of Tinkering, which encourages learning through exploration of ordinary objects and re-using them in interesting and creative ways.

This week we will be experimenting with Gears! Gears! Gears!

Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult or guardian, who will be encouraged to explore with their child(ren).

Free to members, otherwise $10.00 per person.

3D Printing and Prosthetics Special Interest Group

Wednesday 5:30pm-7:00pm

3D Printing is a fantastic technology that lets you create parts at low cost form 3d-design files. Maui Makers has several 3D Printers in house (our own and on loan from members).

The group has a couple of focuses:

  1. Introducing all skill levels to the power of 3D Printing.
  2. Printing e-Nable hands for those in need on Maui. These low cost prosthetics are a great way to understand the power of 3D printing. Come on down to the makerspace and help out!
  3. Learning Fusion 360 so we can customize designs for the hands (and personal projects). Fusion 360 has a rather steep learning curve, but is very powerful. Learning in a group eases the frustration.

Free to paid members, $10.00 for non-members. First time is Free.

CNC SIG Meeting Tuesday 15-Dec-2015

Our CNC Special Interest Group will be meeting on 15 Dec (630-830pm) to continue discussions. Meeting will be at our makerspace, upstairs at 200 Waiehu Beach Rd, Wailuku, HI.

First time attendance is open to all. After that we request you become at least a Friend level member of Maui Makers.

We’ll discuss the new toys in the inventory, as well as some in the pipeline, along with the usual talk story.

CNC = Computer Numeric Control… basically a robot that makes things.

Shop and Tool Safety Classes

Every Sunday 3:00p.m. – 4:30p.m.

Wanna use the tools in our workshop with sharp pointies? We just need to make sure you understand how to keep yourself and others safe.

We have a safety and basic use program that has you covered. Subject will be chosen by members attending and can either be the Basic shop orientation or any of the advanced tools.

Please RSVP on our MeetUp page so we know to expect you!

Arduino Special Interest Group

Thursdays from 6:00 to 9:00 pm

The Arduino SIG meets to talk about arduinos and other small microcontrollers. Arduinos are a low cost, easy to use family of microcontrollers. We have been teaching classes on using them for several years.  Now its time for the community to have its own Special Interest Group (SIG).

Come down and share your Arduino projects and ideas!   Want to learn about the basic use of Arduino computers?  We will be reorganizing an introductory class to a once-a-month schedule as interest demands.  Want to learn more advanced techniques?  Come down and talk story with fellow arduino users.  Chances are there is someone who has already done something similar or is also interested in learning. Bring your project or project ideas. Come learn and share. If you don’t know Arduinos, you can find out basics and sign up for an introductory class.
